well this is not just a problem it's isolated to meet Pearson Kansas this is every school district in Kansas and every school district in Missouri Missouri and probably across the country you're chronically underfunded my name is Dave Mosby I am a facilities consultant I currently work for building controls and Services I went to work for BCS in 2014 and have almost solely worked with the public schools in in Kansas how did you get there you're chronically underfunded what what does that mean well I can use the software and model and say well I want to keep my buildings operating current condition the same metabolic age for instance your overall portfolio of 72 let's what does it take to stay at 72 and not get any older well that shows that we need to spend about between 8 and ten dollars a square foot year and the problem is that you aren't funded at that level with the tax structure and how School Finance works most schools are between a buck 50 and 2 dollars a square foot which means ically underfunded anywhere from 6 to 8 dollars and as a result of that there are things you cannot fix to keep your school in the same current condition and that becomes a very serious problem and the only way to fix that is to have an infusion of cash over a period like with a bond issue you put the money in it increases and resets the life of the facility in
